Can I give a gift to the child I’m reading with?
It’s very thoughtful of you to consider providing a gift to the child with whom you’ve been reading.
However, buying gifts for individual children is not permitted. Bookmark takes this position for safeguarding reasons as well as to ensure we do not show any favouritism towards a particular child. It can be difficult if one child in a class receives a gift from their volunteer and another does not.
To recognise a child’s accomplishment in a Reading Programme, volunteers can issue the end of programme certificate and use the pencil or text tools to write the child’s name on the certificate. You can find the template end of programme certificate in the Bookmark Core Session Materials folder under the Final Session Pack subfolder.

Whether you're an employee or a volunteer, everyone at Bookmark is responsible for the wellbeing and welfare of the children we come in contact with. We've outlined the process here to help you know the steps you need to take, in the event of a safeguarding concern: https://bookmarklibrary.looop.co/topic/170399
However, the main priority is the get in touch - no matter how big or small you think your concern may be. The Designated Safeguarding Lead (and deputies) are here to give you clear guidance and support on what you should do next. You can contact Bookmark's DSL team on 020 3995 7970.
