Can I volunteer on the online programme from my work computer?

If you are using a work device to volunteer, we would recommend testing that you can access our reading platform on your device as many organisations have more stringent firewall protection compared to home systems. If you are not able to successfully connect, you won’t be able to participate in a Bookmark online reading programme.

You can check the network requirements here

Please scroll to the bottom of that page and run both the UDP test and are you ready test. You will need to make sure you test on the device that you will be using during your reading sessions. For the UDP test, you will either get a notification that the test was successful or a notification that says that the VPN has blocked access to Bramble. This may be resolved if you disconnect from the VPN and open an incognito window on Google Chrome.

Frequently asked questions

  • You will need to have access to a PC, laptop, or Chromebook with a webcam and internet connection. iPads, tablets, and phones are not compatible. You will also need to feel relatively comfortable using technology. We have training and guidance to help you learn how to use the platforms that are needed for our online programme.

  • You can find a full list of areas with availability for face-to-face programmes here

We’re looking for people who could support a minimum of two children a week, across 12 weeks.

We’re starting to expand our face-to-face reading programme across the country, depending on school availability and interest. If you know a school who you think would be interested in face-to-face reading programmes, please ask them to complete the form here

If there aren’t any schools offering face-to-face programmes in your area currently, please do still register and consider reading with a child on our online programme.
