We donated £232,000 worth of new books to 116 state-funded primary schools across Sheffield. Children’s author Caryl Hart visited Emmaus Catholic and Church of England Primary School where the school received 200 new, high-quality and diverse children’s books as part of our Your Story Corner initiative.

Each Your Story Corner pack is worth £2,000. The purpose of our Your Story Corner donation is to help primary schools in Sheffield to develop a Whole School Reading Culture and encourage reading for pleasure.

Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success, more than family circumstances, parents’ educational background or income.” – Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development 2021

These schools in Sheffield will also have the opportunity to take part in our volunteer-led reading programme and we are looking for more reading volunteers to help Sheffield children to discover the joy of reading.

Bookmark volunteers take part in two 30-minute sessions each week across six weeks with a child aged between 5 – 10 years-old, reading stories and playing games on our secure online platform. We exist to change children’s life stories through the joy of reading.

Sheffield author, Caryl Hart, ran an interactive session on her book Meet The Weather for children at Emmaus Catholic and Church of England Primary School which they thoroughly enjoyed! A big thank you to Caryl for celebrating our Your Story Corner donation in Sheffield.
