Anna Croghan appointed as Head of Volunteering at Bookmark Reading Charity
BOOKMARK READING CHARITY HAS APPOINTED ANNA CROGHAN AS ITS NEW HEAD OF VOLUNTEERING
Anna will be joining Bookmark as Head of Volunteering following her six-year career at Age UK where she has led and delivered strategic change in their national and local volunteering initiatives.
In her previous role she served as an active member in several cross-sector volunteering initiatives, including Shaping the Future with Volunteering, The Richmond Group and Volunteer Scotland’s National Inclusion in Volunteering Group.
Previously, Anna has managed and directed services involving both staff and volunteer teams in the United States and England, delivering education and campaigning for children with epilepsy, support for people with disabilities and transportation and nutrition operations for older people in need. She has led lone-working volunteering programmes, launched new corporate volunteering initiatives, and delivered bespoke volunteering projects in university and dementia care settings.
Her role with Bookmark will see her lead the volunteering team in growing the charity’s volunteer base, building its corporate offering and strengthening its community provision to help deliver the invaluable support offered to children who are in most need.
Anna Croghan, Bookmark’s newly appointed Head of Volunteering said:
“I am honoured to join Bookmark to build on the great work they have done with volunteers to empower every child through literacy. There are exciting volunteer involvement opportunities ahead and I look forward to working with the team to strengthen and grow the volunteer programme so we can tackle the challenges poor literacy creates for individuals and our society.”
Emily Jack, Bookmark Reading Charity CEO said:
“We have an ambitious target to deliver 50,000 reading sessions to children across the UK in 2024 and Anna’s appointment is key to realising this goal.
“Our volunteers tell us it’s our community and the difference they are able to make which keeps them coming back to deliver more one-to-one sessions. We know Anna’s experience will help to further enrich our volunteering offer and strengthen our support as we look ahead to positively impact more children’s lives through the joy of reading.”
As well as supporting schools with their whole school reading culture, Bookmark offers primary school children one-to-one reading sessions on its unique online platform through its network of volunteers, as well as in person sessions and a growing number of 16 – 17 year old reading mentors.
