Bookmark Reading Charity has been nominated for a second year running for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA), the world’s largest award for children’s and young adult literature.

This April, Bookmark will find out if it has been successful out of a list of 240 nominees worldwide; authors, illustrators and organisations, all of whom are nominated for their outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature.

The award was established in memory of Astrid Lindgren, the creator of stories beloved the world over, championing the voice of children and their future. The Swedish Government founded an award to honour her memory after she passed away in 2002, to promote interest in children’s and young adult literature around the world.

The prize amount of SEK 5,000,000 (around £400,000) is awarded to the successful laureate who is selected by a 12-jury panel through the Swedish Arts Council.
