Spreading the joy of reading with The Book Fairies
On Sunday 26th January, we partnered with The Book Fairies, to spread the joy of reading across the UK. Together, we distributed over 50 copies of The Story Corner magazine, hiding them in nooks and crannies nationwide.
This aimed to invite children to discover the magic of reading and encourage recipients to explore our online and face-to-face volunteering opportunities.

What is The Story Corner magazine?
The Story Corner is our termly magazine, crafted especially for children aged 5 – 11. It’s filled with diverse stories and engaging activities, aiming to ignite a love for reading – particularly among children who might not have access to books at home.

The Book Fairies are known for their enchanting practice of hiding books in public spaces, making them the perfect partners for this initiative. From Cornwall to Sunderland, book fairies far and wide spent their Sunday hiding copies of our magazine in the perfect hiding spots for children to find. Beautifully adorned with bows and ribbons, the magazines were distributed in parks, schools, reading corners and train stations ready for a child to find.
Many children, especially those in disadvantaged areas, may not have regular access to engaging reading materials. So, by surprising them with stories in unexpected places, we hope to make reading more accessible and enjoyable.
This fantastic initiative directly supports our mission to foster a love of reading in as many children as possible. By placing The Story Corner in everyday public spaces we created moments of joy and curiosity, giving children the chance to experience the thrill of finding a special book that’s just for them.

The importance of reading from a young age
Beyond the simple act of hiding books, the campaign was an invitation for families, educators and communities, to recognise the importance of literacy and storytelling in a child’s development. Encouraging children to read from an early age builds confidence, expands their imagination and lays the foundation for lifelong learning.
