Programmes, Grants & Resources

We partner with schools in disadvantaged communities to develop whole school reading cultures and to provide one-to-one reading support. For the children who need us most, we’re changing their story.

Our programmes, grants & resources

We want every child to discover the joy of reading. We have several grants available that provide investment, books and resources to schools to help develop a whole school reading culture, including Your Story Corner, Literacy Partner Programme and School Network Programme

We have a wide range of resources, such as The Story Corner Magazine and Comic Book Club, as well as a range of teacher training and events. Schools can also partner with us to access our volunteer-led reading programmes and other initiatives as well as access to apply for grants.

Literacy Partner Programme

The Literacy Partner Programme offers schools a grant of up to £10,000 of literacy support. It aims to provide direct and targeted literacy support for primary schools in areas of high literacy need, free of charge.

Your Story Corner

Our Your Story Corner programme targets specific areas to offer primary schools the opportunity to apply for the packs, offering quality books and reading resources, worth more than £2000. This gives schools the opportunity to develop a whole school reading culture and embed reading for pleasure into the lives of their pupils.

I cannot thank you enough – these books will make a huge difference to our reading stock and the lives of our children. There are some books we are now going to go away and order multiple copies of as key texts to be in classrooms throughout the school.

Rocket Packs

Our Rocket Packs aim to support our mission to help every child read. Curated by teachers and authors alike, these giveaways ensure that children participating in our reading programmes and across the school will have access to high-quality, diverse reading material.

The Story Corner magazine

Our magazine, The Story Corner, is packed full of stories, activities and games so that children can have something to read at home during the school breaks. Distributed to primary schools, food banks, pupil referral units and children’s hospitals across the country, almost a million copies have been distributed since it began.

Many of our pupils don't have books or magazines at home so they were very happy when they heard they could keep the Story Corner magazine!

School Network Programme

Available to previous Your Story Corner schools that meet our eligibility criteria, our School Network Programme is here to help schools that need our support the most. Becoming a part of our School Network Programme will mean partner schools receive £1,000 worth of resources from us over 12 months.

Story Starter Programme

Our latest programme is the Story Starter Programme, where we’ve packed bags full of resources for children transitioning into reception at a Bookmark partner school.

One-to-one reading programme

Our one-to one reading programme offers support for children in Years one to five who are at risk of not meeting the expected standard for reading.

Even with a short programme, I have noticed that the children's willingness to read is huge. I can see they are picking up more books to read at the library during their reading time and choosing which authors they want, being more interactive and willing to read aloud to their teacher, and children that were reluctant readers reading extracts to whole classes/small groups.
