Your Story Corner Programme: Wolverhampton

Why are we there?

Bookmark identified Wolverhampton as an area for support due to the majority of schools qualifying for our eligibility criteria – this criteria being a higher than national average for child deprivation and number of children entitled to Free School Meals, and a lower than national average for Key Stage 2 reading results.

What did we do?

Aimed at schools in disadvantaged communities, Bookmark delivered packs of brand new books to schools in Wolverhampton. This was to encourage a whole school reading culture and provide children with the literacy resources they need to spark the joy of reading.

What did we deliver?

Who doesn't love a brand-new book to pick up and get lost in?! The children have been so enthusiastic to get their hands on the broad range of new books. The variety of authors and genres is excellent, providing a balance which we had been trying for many years. The children can't wait to get into the library!

The wide range of diverse texts have interested our young readers. The children look forward to choosing and completing a new book from one of our reading spaces. They take pride in these spaces and treat the books and this reading time with respect. Pupils are eager to read their decodable books, as well as explore their own fun book. It is great to see pupils developing their resilience to reading as their peers encourage and support each other to choose from the new texts. Thank you for your support with reading so far
